Take it from Paul Pierce: the Cleveland Cavaliers could be defeated by a college basketball team.
On ESPN’s “The Jump,” the former Celtics star made his case that the Blue Devils could take down the Cavs, arguing that three Duke freshmen — Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett, and Cameron Reddish — would start for Cleveland right now. All three are projected to be drafted in the lottery in the upcoming NBA Draft.
“If [the Cavaliers] don’t have Kevin Love, Duke can beat them right now,” Pierce said. “Duke’s top three players are already better than three players right now on the Cavs.”
Duke has lost two games this season. The Blue Devils fell to Gonzaga at the Maui Invitational on Nov. 21 and dropped a game at home to unranked Syracuse on Jan. 14, but that doesn’t change Pierce’s opinion.
“That’s all right. Chemistry issues,” Pierce said. “You don’t go undefeated in college. I mean, come on.”
